Smart Shoe Notifications

Shoe Health's notifications keep you ahead of your shoes — a daily today's-rotation reminder, a new run to assign, overuse and wear alerts, recovery reminders, and a nudge when a pair is ready to rotate back in.

Smart notifications keep your shoe data current and your rotation healthy without you having to open the app. Rather than one generic reminder, Shoe Health sends the right nudge at the right moment — from assigning a new run to knowing when a pair has rested enough.

What you’ll be notified about

  • Today’s rotation — a daily nudge with the pairs to reach for today, chosen by run type from your rotation suggestions, delivered around your usual running time or at a time you set.
  • A new workout to assign — when a running workout is logged in Apple Health (including by another app), Shoe Health prompts you to assign it to a pair.
  • Overuse and wear alerts — a heads-up when a pair is getting overused or crosses a wear threshold, so replacement is never a surprise.
  • Recovery reminders — after a hard or long run, a nudge that a pair could use some rest before its next outing.
  • Ready to rotate — a prompt when a pair has rested enough and is ready to go back into your rotation.
  • Wear condition updates — after you assign runs, updates on how your shoes are holding up.

Together, these turn “which pair, and is it ready?” into something the app reminds you about, instead of something you have to track in your head.

Assign straight from the notification

If you set a default shoe, you can assign a new run directly from the notification with a long-press — no need to open the app and navigate. It’s the fastest way to keep per-pair mileage accurate.

The daily Today’s rotation notification draws on rotation suggestions and the extra run types, so it’s part of Premium — as is setting default shoes for those run types and using them from notifications and in widgets. The Daily default and the wear, overuse, recovery, and ready-to-rotate notifications are part of the free experience.

Estimates, not certainties

The recovery and “ready to rotate” nudges are based on Shoe Health’s recovery estimate — how far, fast, and hard you ran, how long ago, how worn the pair is, and how it’s built. That’s genuinely useful as a rotation aid, but treat it as guidance rather than a precise measurement: the idea that foam fully recovers on a fixed timeline between runs isn’t strongly established. In other words, a “ready” nudge is a good prompt to rotate that pair back in — not a guarantee about the state of the foam.

Nudges, not nagging — and you’re in control

Notifications support good habits; they shouldn’t pester you. In Shoe Health’s own settings, each type has its own switch, so you can keep only the ones you want or turn them all off:

  • Daily Shoe Reminder — the today’s-rotation nudge
  • Shoe Ready — a pair is ready to rotate back in
  • Shoe Recovery — a pair could use some rest
  • Overuse Alerts — a pair is getting overused

Switch any of them off individually, or disable them all. (Your device’s system-level permission for the app is still managed in iOS Settings → Notifications.) Either way, you can always assign runs and check each pair by hand in the app.

Why it matters

The two things a healthy rotation needs — assigning each run to the right pair, and resting pairs between hard efforts — are exactly the things that are easy to forget. Smart notifications make them automatic prompts, which keeps your rotation balanced and your wear estimates honest.
