1. Check Shoe Health's Health permissions
Shoe Health can only read the workouts you allow. This is the most common cause. On your iPhone:
- Open Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Shoe Health.
- Make sure Workouts and Walking + Running Distance are turned on.
- If they were off, turn them on, then reopen Shoe Health.
If you tapped "Don't Allow" when first asked, this is where you re-enable access — the app can't prompt again for data you previously denied.
2. Pull to refresh
Open the Workouts tab in Shoe Health and pull down to refresh. New workouts are imported when the app checks Apple Health, and a manual refresh forces that check.
3. Confirm the run is actually in Apple Health
Shoe Health reads from Apple Health — it can't show a workout that never arrived there. To check:
- Open the Health app → Browse → Activity → Workouts.
- Look for your run in the list.
If the run isn't in Apple Health, the app that recorded it didn't save it there. Open that app (Apple Watch Workout, Strava, Nike Run Club, etc.) and make sure it's set to write workouts to Apple Health, then record or re-sync. If it is in Apple Health but not in Shoe Health, go back to step 1 — permissions are the likely culprit.
4. Make sure it's a running workout
Shoe Health currently tracks running workouts imported from Apple Health. Walks, rides, and other activity types won't appear as assignable runs.
5. Give Apple Watch runs a moment
A run recorded on Apple Watch syncs to your iPhone's Health app over Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, which can take a little time after you finish. Keep your Watch and iPhone near each other and unlocked for a few minutes, then pull to refresh in Shoe Health.
6. Restart the app (and, if needed, your iPhone)
Fully close Shoe Health and reopen it. If workouts still won't appear after the steps above, a quick device restart clears up occasional Health sync hiccups.
7. Reinstalling? Your shoes come back from iCloud
If you reinstall the app, your shoe data restores automatically from your private iCloud container as long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID. After reinstalling, re-check the Health permissions in step 1, since those reset with a fresh install.
